Well done Peter. You I very accomplished at still water fishing and its great you tie your own flies. Maybe you can have a go at river fishing for a bit of a change. The stretch of the Tillingbourne at Vale End is good. Hare's ear's work well as do pheasant tails.

Dan and I were the ones in the boat, we came back to the ferry point after about two hours but couldnt find you, Our other member decided to go back to 7lb Creek in the ferry so we mooched about for a bit in hook straight where I managed 2 fish on a Comorant and one on a Viva booby, After the rains we went for another look round but still didn't find you or the other chap who obviously went home earlier. Our other member went off in a boat on his own and we didnt see him again either! Thats one of the drawbacks of a big water. Its a shame more didn't turn out to give it an atmosphere, still we can always try again.
Take heart from the fact that it was a very hard day with the low pressure moving in and a constantly changing wind...Bewl fish hate that. See you at the next meeting.

My friends and I have been using these the past month or two here in the US and have had good results. Mostly in shallow river areas and down stream from a spillway where the water is only 2-3 feet deep. I should mention we are fishing at night and it is about 80 degrees (F) and the water is extremely warm.

The lures have a rattle inside which I believe helps attract fish at night.

Let me know how you get on!

You might find that repetitive casting of a lure/spinner with a fly rod causes wrist strain as you flick the spinner rather than keeping a straight wrist like in casting a team of flies.

I've used a fly rod in the past for pike fishing with a sandeel on a river I used to live near. Great fun.

I have been using a 6' rod not the fancy one. But I think I am going to try out my old 9'6" fly rod to see if it makes any difference. I have got some wire traces in case of pike.

Probably easier starting off with a 7-9ft spinning rod and open faced reel and keeping those items as an ornament mate.

Spinners should stand you in good stead, though beware that there is a real risk of hooking a pike with those, in which case you need to be very prepared!!

I laughed at the landing net being bent outta shape . . have had that happen to me with a 14lb carp . . lol . . was well worth it though !! :)

I really ought to make time just to go fishing again :)

Though I have never done fishing, after reading I thought I should try and find time and means to do it.
I like though fish as food.
Is it sometimes tiring and test you patience? or it helps you to become more patient?
If it is then as a woman I feel women will excel in fishing.
