Ernie and I belong to the Surrey Fly Dressers Guild which had organised a fishing meet at Vale End, Albury on Sunday. We had decided to go late morning and called in at Weston Lakes on the way. There were a lot of people fishing and the water had a lot of algae in it, as well as stuff floating on the surface. When we got to Vale end the water quality was as bad. We stopped around and gave a hand with one of the youngsters too try to improve his casting. We socialised and had lunch there but decided not to fish.
However we did trot on down to Frensham and have late afternoon and evening catch and release. I caught a small fish, maybe 2Lbs, Ernie took a long time to catch his at about 3Lbs. He also cheated because we both said we had chosen our fly and put them on a patch to carry with us. That was all I took with me but when he lost a couple of his he took a tin of extra flies from the car to restock (thats out of order). He later caught a small Roach, just as he was beginning a cast and the fly landed about ten foot in front of him.
On Monday evening we had a club talk at Effingham Golf Club by Chalk stream Angler Peter Hayes entitled "Educated by Trout". This was rather interesting and left us with many good tips as to how to improve our fishing.
